Is music like poetry with a tune or just random words with a tune?
Monday, June 16th, 2008*Emo Vampire* asked:
my sister and i disagree on this. she says music is just words put with a tune. I say that music is pretty much just poetry that has been put with the tune the writer chooses. I say this because most songs rhyme like poetry and I’ve showed her lyrics to prove it. She thinks I’m wrong. She wants more proof. So who is right? Is is just plain words with a tune or is it like poetry that goes with a chosen tune? Who is more correct? Me or Emmy?

What’s the difference between writing song lyrics and poetry?

Someone told me that if you take away the tune from good song lyrics, you get bad poetry. Is that true? I was always so good at poetry, but when I try and use the same style for lyrics people don’t seem to like them?
I do pay attention to meter and rhyme. I’ve won tons of poetry contest but nobody wants to write songs to them.
