On Writing Poetry
by Elaine Polin

Poetry
does not flow
from brain
to fingertips.

Words must be
changed
arranged
exchanged.

At the end
most of them
must be
trashed.
DM: You have plenty of your own.
As I have said before, Dondi is the exception to the rule. He breathes poetry.

How can I get more people to read the Hank Feral 360 page to check out my prose and poetry?

Hank Feral asked:

I would like to get comments about my poetry and prose. How can I get people to check it out? I hear about the power of the blog, but I don’t know much about computers. So my knowledge on how to draw visitors to my 360 page is very limited.

Would you, the Yahoo Question and Answers audience, help me out? I consider myself a serious writer and poet, and treat my prose accordingly. Help? I’ve tried to start a poetry group. But my computer illiteracy places that option in the no can do file.

It seems every time I start answering the questions required to start a group I am considered a person looking for a person to do whatever. I don’t care one iota about that kind of group. I want to be in a serious poetry and prose group, not a singles group “looking.” Hank Feral

It’s extremely hard for me to write a poem . I never know where to start . I’ve tried to write a few poems, but I always end up putting in a line that doesn’t make sense in order to make a rhyme . I know a poem doesn’t necessarily have to rhyme, but isn’t it harder to write a poem that doesn’t rhyme ? Are there some people who can’t write poetry ? How can I learn how to write poetry ?

I havepages of poems that I think are equal or passing alot of what I read today. The sad thing is poetry dosn’t go anywhere anymore it seems. Maybe thats why we don’t find good poetry, it’s no longer respected.

sher asked:

A book that will help with making lines flow, and what the types of poems are?

I am good at writing my thoughts and emotions down, but I need help with making them flow and not sound “choppy”

Or, if anyone can recommend a website, that could help too. When I was in high school, we never had poetry classes, but I have always been fascinated with it.

I have read Whitman, William Carlos Williams, etc and can’t seem to find any sort of traditional rhyme or meter to them, but people have told me this is not free verse. So what exactly is free verse poetry?
