I am a poet and write various styles of poetry. In my opinion, the type most difficult to write is that which rhymes. However, my observations show me that free verse is the most popular among poets these days. Is there a preference among readers?

questionsmakesmart asked:

Those who submit poetry here, do you ever actually study any published poetry or do you just assume that because you think you are “deep” that you can write? Really, most of you here just sound completely foolish and silly. I am not a Poet Laureate by any means, but I do have enough sense and pride to at least READ and REVISE a poem before I expose it to scrutiny. Now all the haters can begin with their bashing!

How does a fact-oriented person write poetry?

runazhermione asked:

A friend of mine has a poetry assignment for school. She’s really quite brilliant, but she has a very straighforward, fact-oriented mind, and can’t grasp what poetry is and how to write it. For some reason, she seems stuck on thinking that all poetry has to rhyme, and she just refuses to accept that in poetry, there are no boundaries, that poetry really doesn’t have a solid definition and is pure emotion. So how does one who is really used to working with factual things write poetry?

beatrix asked:

Hi, we were asked to sing a song in class which is a good example of poetry. I want to sing a song which wouldn’t be difficult to be sung. Also, it seems to me that my teacher prefers songs with good (or interesting) meanings.

You can also suggest bands instead of songs if that’s easier. Thanks a bunch. :D
