I’m planning on writing a hopefully beautiful choral piece but I need poetry recommendations. Something short and simple, and not too overbearing and pretentious. Preferably an older poem.

Chelsea asked:

So I’m really into beat poetry right now and loving it so much I’ve started trying to write my own. But I don’t know how to do it. What are the main parts included into a poem, what needs to be there? When ever I try to write it just ends up looking like a weird list of notes to myself of things I already know. Any good techniques or styles to make it better?

smile for rainie :) asked:

I want to send in 3 samples of my poetry with my college application. I printed out each poem individually, with my name and date on each one. Is that all I need to include? My mother wants me to include pictures relating to the poems on each page, but is that a bad idea? I think it might look unprofessional. How did you send in your poems?

I have an autobiographical book written as a poem, written in a “beat poetry” style structure and substance and I want to know the best way to get it published? Who to submit it to? What format it should be in? Any suggestions whatsoever will be appreciated.

Does anyone who submits poetry on this site ever do any homework first?

questionsmakesmart asked:

Those who submit poetry here, do you ever actually study any published poetry or do you just assume that because you think you are “deep” that you can write? Really, most of you here just sound completely foolish and silly. I am not a Poet Laureate by any means, but I do have enough sense and pride to at least READ and REVISE a poem before I expose it to scrutiny. Now all the haters can begin with their bashing!

I need to memorize a poem for Spanish class, that is at least 200 words. Does anyone know of any good poems, or sites with Spanish poetry? Well known poems are preferred, but not required. Also, rough translations would be much appreciated.

I am currently studying Emily Dickinson and i have been asked to write an essay about the way she uses time as a main theme in her poetry. The main poem i am focusing on is “I dreaded that first robin so,” I would be grateful of any suggestions or guidelines you may have please! I am also willing to help anyone else who is having problems with Emily Dickinson’s poems. Thanks Lyndsey.

Can anyone help me with my English Literature poetry exam please?

__A_YAHOO_USER__ asked:

Does anyone know any decent websites which have information on the poetry for the AQA GCSE English Literature exam? Not Bitesize though, I don’t find it very helpful.

Also, in the poem Anne Hathaway by Carol Ann Duffy, how am I supposed to describe it to the examiner? Should I be very safe with it, or will I be marked down for too much detail?

Thanks in advance!

If poetry is older, say before the dawn of copyright, is it copyrighted? I’m looking to include a poem in a newsletter for my company.
